	Under the direction of the Attorny General, the Department of Law & Public Safety is dedicated to making New Jersey safe for all its residents and visitors. In addition to providing statewide law enforcement and emergency response services, this Department and its more than 9,000 employees are responsible for protecting citizens' civil and consumer rights, promoting highway traffic safety, maintaining public confidence in the alcoholic beverage, gaming and racing industries and providing legal services and counsel to other state agencies.
	Ten top FBI priorities: protecting the U.S. from terrorist attacks, from foreign intelligence operations, and from cyber-based attacks and high-technology crimes; combating public corruption at all levels; protecting civil rights; combating international and national organized crime, major white-collar crime, and significant violent crime; supporting our law enforcement and intelligence partners; and upgrading FBI technology.
	FEMA's continuing mission within the new department is to lead the effort to prepare the nation for all hazards and effectively manage federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates proactive mitigation activities, trains first responders, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration.

	The New Jersey Department of Homeland Security has three primary missions: Prevent terrorist attacks within New Jersey, reduce New Jersey's vulnerability to terrorism, and minimize the damage from potential attacks and natural disasters.
