Under the direction of the Attorny General, the Department of Law & Public Safety is dedicated to making New Jersey safe for all its residents and visitors. In addition to providing statewide law enforcement and emergency response services, this Department and its more than 9,000 employees are responsible for protecting citizens' civil and consumer rights, promoting highway traffic safety, maintaining public confidence in the alcoholic beverage, gaming and racing industries and providing legal services and counsel to other state agencies.
With its four-pronged mission of education, research, service and economic development, New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) plays a critical role in shaping New Jersey's future. As a major public technological university, NJIT is an important conduit through which technology flows into society. The university's educational programs prepare students to be leaders in the technology-dependent economy of the 21st century. University researchers seek new knowledge to improve processes and products for industry. Through public and private partnerships and economic development efforts, the university helps to grow new business ventures that fuel the economy.

The Borough of West Paterson is one of sixteen municipalities in Passaic County. The Borough is located in the northeastern section of New Jersey and the lower end of the county, about 20 miles west of New York City. West Paterson is a highly developed municipality, with a mixture of residential, retail, office, and industrial properties, a significant portion of the Borough remains open space due to municipal parkland, two County parks, and a two reservoirs.
Governor Richard J. Codey and other state officials join Paramus Mayor James J. Tedesco in unveiling two new initiatives that will bring new technology into securing schools and shopping malls.   Those scheduled to attend include Attorney General Peter Harvey, NJ State Police Superintendent Richard Fuentes, Director of the Office of Counter Terrorism Sid Casperson, State Senator Joseph Coniglio, Senior Vice President of Research and Technology for the NJ Institute of Technology Donald Sebastian, Paramus Superintendent of Schools Janice Dime ,   members of county and local government, and representatives from Westfield Shoppingtown.

Passaic County's Prosector's Office are prepared to work diligently on behalf of their citizens so that criminal laws may be enforced fairly and effectively.  It takes a considerable amount of coordinated effort to make a reality the goal of effective law enforcement.  This office will continue to work closely with the judiciary and other law enforcement agencies so that they can help make their neighborhoods a safer and better place to live and work.

Under New Jersey laws, the Bergen County Prosecutor is the chief law enforcement officer for the County of Bergen.  The Prosecutor is a constitutional officer charged with the broad obligation "to use all reasonable and lawful diligence for the detection, arrest, indictment and conviction of offenders against the laws."   As such, the Prosecutor has wide-ranging authority over the law enforcement community in the county.
The third largest municipal Police force in Bergen County, Its functions are divided among its patrol, investigative, traffic, records, criminal identification, narcotics and youth bureau. It also employs a contingent of crossing guards during school months, as well as special police officers for directing traffic and police reserve. Now, in effect is a 911 emergency number.
The East Orange Police Department is a community oriented police agency. The Department is committed to the concept of Community Policing and as such is committed to excellence in response to the needs of all our citizens. The East Orange Police Department exists to serve all the people within the community in a professional and ethical manner. The Department recognizes that integrity is the foundation of our  profession. We will endeavor to preserve and safeguard the public trust by adhering to the highest standards of performance and ethical practice. 
 
Chief John Dowie has been in command of the police department since February 1998. The Department is currently up to 118 sworn members, including recruits currently in the Police Academy, and is poised to address the needs and concerns of the Citizens of Kearny well into the future.

The Board of Public Utilities is a regulatory authority with a statutory mandate to ensure safe, adequate, and proper utility services at reasonable rates for customers in New Jersey. Accordingly, the NJBPU regulates critical services such as natural gas, electricity, water and telecommunications and cable television. The Board addresses issues of consumer protection, energy reform, deregulation of energy and telecommunications services and the restructuring of utility rates to encourage energy conservation and competitive pricing in the industry. The Board also has responsibility for monitoring utility service and responding to consumer complaints.

NJ Department of Health and senior services is to promote optimum health and development of New Jersey reidents through the promotion of preventive services, linkages with primary medical care and healthy physical and psychosocial environments.
Higher Education provides coordination, planning, policy development, and advocacy for the state's higher education system.  The Commission is also responsible for institutional licensure and the administration of the Educational Opportunity Fund and other programs. 
Division of Veterans Healthcare Services provides long-term care and respite care for veterans, National Guard and reserve components of the Armed Forces of the United States. Division of Services encompasses free interment and perpetual care in the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery; maintains the State's Monuments and Memorials - Vietnam Veterans Memorial and Education Center, Korean War Veterans Memorial, South Jersey Veterans Monument at Oceanview, oversees a "Transitional Housing Program" for homeless veterans, and the State Approving Agency which certifies education programs for the US Veterans Affairs. Division of Veterans Programs is responsible for administering all requests for assistance pertaining to federal and state veterans' benefits. Preserves and displays historical documents and artifacts honoring and memorializing the service of New Jersey's Veterans to the Nation and the State: Militia Museum at Sea Girt and Lawrenceville.
The Office of Counter-Terrorism is the State's primary agency responsible for combating terrorism. The office is a separate unit within the Department of Law and Public Safety and has all the powers conferred to the department, including the law enforcement powers conferred by the Criminal Justice Act. The Office of Counter-Terrorism works closely and collaboratively with law enforcement agencies at the federal, state, county and municipal levels.
NJDEP began a role to manage natural resources and solve pollution problems. In what started with about 1,400 employees in five divisions, NJDEP now has a staff of approximately 3,400 and is a leader in the country for its pollution prevention efforts and innovative environmental management strategies.

FAA is responsible for the safety of civil aviation. Regulates civil aviation to promote safety Encouraging and developing civil aeronautics, including new aviation technology. Develops and operates a system of air traffic control and navigation for both civil and military aircraft. Researches and develops the National Airspace System and civil aeronautics. Develops and carries out programs to control aircraft noise and other environmental effects of civil aviation. Regulates U.S. commercial space transportation.

Situated on a 6,500-acre military installation located in the northwest corner of New Jersey, Picatinny plays a unique role in the United States' ability to wage war. There is no other comprehensive armaments facility like it in the country; it is a one-of-a-kind facility that provides virtually all of the lethal mechanisms used in Army weapon systems and those of the other military services. Picatinny indeed is a joint service armament research and development center.

The largest private university in New Jersey, FDU is an independent, nonsectarian, coeducational, multicampus institution.
